Queer May also means responsibility.
Due to the current epidemiological situation in the country, we have decided to limit all activities in the coming months that could expose you to certain risks related to the spread of COVID-19 and all the consequences associated with it. Both the Equality March and the Queer May Festival bring together large numbers of people, which, given the current recommendations of the WHO and other health protection institutions, may contribute to the spread of infection. We do not want that! Therefore, the Equality March planned for May 23 will be postponed until the second half of the year.
The Krakow Equality March has been marching through the streets of the city since 2004, with the last one, in 2019, attracting over 10,000 people. For many years, the event has been held as close as possible to the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia, celebrated on May 17. But Queer May is not only about the Equality March, but also about the largest and oldest queer culture festival in Poland, which takes place at the same time.
This year’s Equality March was scheduled for May 23, and preparations were in full swing. Does this mean that nothing will happen in May? We assure you that we are monitoring the epidemiological situation on an ongoing basis and preparing a host of online events. We also invite you to join the queer quarantine, or queerantanna, a Facebook group where lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transgender people, and allies can find company and ideas for spending time together.
For us, Queer May also means responsibility—for you and for us, for your health, well-being, and future. For the best fun of the year, for parties you won’t forget for a long time. And for the most outrageous, glittery, colorful, and dance-filled Equality March. See you online!
