The Queer May Festival has some truly unique events in store for us! This year, we want to highlight the presence of intersex people in our community and the culture they create. That is why we have prepared two one-of-a-kind events for you!
“Ponyboi” is an absolute sensation – a short film by Rivera Gallo, in which an openly intersex person directed and starred in a feature film for the first time. River is a director, actor, and intersex activist – his Ponyboi has already toured film festivals, and on May 16, we will show it in Poland for the first time! This film is not only a story of love and self-acceptance – the stunning visuals are a real eye candy. You have to see it!
On May 19, we invite you to delve into the even more intimate world of intersex people: together we will watch “My Own Wings”, which grow out of the backs of people from Panama to Russia. Together, we will delve into the intimate world of light, faces emerging from the darkness, and the courage shown by the subjects of the photographs. They all share several characteristics: intersexuality, social ostracism, and fear. The series presented here consists of photographs by Katia Repina, an artist born in Moscow. In 2009, she studied photojournalism and documentary filmmaking in Barcelona. She currently lives in New York, where she works on projects documenting issues related to gender, identity, and sexuality. She is a member of the Brooklyn Filmmakers Collective. Her exhibition “My Own Wings” has already been presented in the US, Australia, the UK, Germany, Switzerland, and Myanmar. This year, she was nominated for the World Press Photo Joop Swart Masterclass award. The event is organized in cooperation with the Nośna Foundation and Warsztat.
The exhibition itself will be open during the festival from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Come and see it!
