Queer May on the Human Rights tram.
On December 10, on the occasion of International Human Rights Day, the Human Rights tram traveled through Krakow. There was a discussion area, there were speeches, and there were Krakow organizations, including us!
December 10 is International Human Rights Day – on this day in 1948, the UN General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The Krakow Council for Equal Treatment, which was established on May 17, 2019, i.e. on the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia, came up with the initiative for Krakow to celebrate the anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights with a Human Rights tram. The tram appeared on Tuesday on route 1, between Salwator and Wzgórza Krzesławickie.
Krakow-based human rights organizations representing, among others, the Ukrainian and Muslim minorities were invited to participate in the initiative, as were Amnesty International and the Queer May Association! We had our rainbow stickers and offered the opportunity to leave notes with words of support for the local lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and intersex community. “You are at home here”, “You are important”, “The rainbow does not offend”, “Krakow is with you” – these are the messages that the residents of Krakow left for our community. The tram also had four “themed” stops: equality, solidarity, openness, and respect, which were discussed by representatives of the invited organizations.
